Home / Compare / AI Demo Agent vs. AI SDR

An AI SDR is an AI agent that does a sales development rep’s job: it contacts or answers leads, qualifies them and books a meeting with a person. Outbound AI SDRs start conversations by email, LinkedIn or phone; inbound AI SDRs answer website visitors in seconds. An AI demo agent shows a website visitor the product itself, answering and qualifying as it goes. The two overlap on inbound, and many teams use both.

Written by Floe, which makes an AI demo agent. Vendor facts are from each vendor’s own site, checked 27 September 2026.

What is an AI SDR?

An AI SDR is an AI agent that does the work of a sales development rep: finding or receiving leads, starting or answering the conversation, qualifying, and booking a meeting with a human seller. Gartner treats “AI SDR agents” as a category for both inbound and outbound selling (Gartner, 2025), and G2 has listed an “AI SDRs” category since May 2025 (G2). “AI BDR” is used as a near-synonym that leans outbound; vendors do not agree on a difference.

Outbound AI SDRs contact people who have never engaged with you, by email, LinkedIn, phone, SMS or WhatsApp. Inbound AI SDRs respond to people who have already shown interest, on your website or after a form (Qualified). Salesforce, which sells both, says the most sophisticated AI SDRs today are better suited to inbound leads (Salesforce).

What is an AI demo agent?

An AI demo agent runs a product demo for a website visitor with no person on the call. Some operate your real product in a browser, some a sandbox, and some show interactive demos captured from the product. It answers questions and qualifies the visitor as it goes; booking a meeting is one possible next step, not the goal. See the 17 AI demo agents on the market.

Where the two blur

  • Inbound AI SDRs are starting to show things. Qualified’s Piper pulls up slides, and Warmly’s top plan generates slide “mini-demos”. Storylane calls RepX, which shows captured interactive demos, an AI SDR.
  • Demo agents do SDR work. Floe, Naoma and Docket all qualify visitors and book or route them. Docket calls itself a demand agent, and its Showroom, launched in September 2026, demos a sandbox of the product.
  • Some “AI SDRs” are copilots. Amplemarket’s Duo and Regie.ai keep a person sending the messages.
  • Teams use both. AiSDR, an AI SDR vendor, runs Naoma, a demo agent, on its own website (Naoma).

When an AI SDR is the better choice

  • You need more pipeline. Only an outbound AI SDR starts conversations with people who have not come to you. A demo agent needs visitors.
  • Your inbound question is simple. If visitors mostly need an answer and a meeting, and speed and routing are the bottleneck, an inbound AI SDR answers, qualifies and books in seconds.
  • You need follow-up after they leave. AI SDRs chase by email, SMS, phone and WhatsApp. A website demo agent works while the visitor is on the site.
  • The product cannot be demoed live. No demo environment, sensitive customer data on every screen, hardware or services.
  • You run on Salesforce. Salesforce sells Piper for inbound visitors and an Agentforce agent for outbound email, alongside Sales Cloud.

When an AI demo agent is the better choice

  • Buyers want to see the product first. 67% of B2B buyers prefer a buying experience without a sales rep (Gartner, survey of 646 buyers). A demo agent shows them the product without one.
  • Demo requests wait. In two audits, 35% of the top 100 SaaS companies and 63.5% of 1,000 B2B SaaS companies never replied to a demo request (sources). A demo agent runs the demo when it is asked for.
  • The product is the pitch. When the answer to “how does it work?” is to show it, a chat reply or a slide undersells it.
  • You want qualification from a real conversation. The agent asks your questions while the visitor is looking at the product, not in a form before they have seen it.

What the data says, and does not

No public study with a stated method compares AI SDR results, such as meetings, pipeline or win rate, with human SDRs. The figures that do have a method are about adoption. In the Bridge Group’s 2025 survey of 351 B2B companies, AI SDRs appeared as an SDR model for the first time, at 1% of respondents (Bridge Group). Gartner places AI agents for sales at the Peak of Inflated Expectations (Gartner, 2025), and 31% of the chief sales officers it surveyed named proving the return on AI tools as a top challenge for 2026 (Gartner, 227 CSOs).

Treat vendor case-study numbers, for AI SDRs and demo agents alike, as claims: most give no sample or baseline. Run your own test against your own baseline.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an AI SDR and an AI demo agent?
An AI SDR does a sales development rep's job: it contacts or answers leads, qualifies them and books a meeting with a person, so the meeting is the output. An AI demo agent shows a website visitor the product itself, answering questions and qualifying while it does, and a meeting is one possible next step.
Is an AI demo agent a kind of AI SDR?
They overlap on inbound. Both answer and qualify website visitors, and some vendors call their demo agent an AI SDR: Storylane calls RepX one. An outbound AI SDR does something a demo agent cannot: it starts conversations with people who have never visited your site.
Should I buy an AI SDR or an AI demo agent?
If you lack pipeline, an outbound AI SDR, because only it creates conversations. If visitors reach your site and want to see the product before they talk to sales, an AI demo agent. If your inbound questions are simple and the bottleneck is speed and routing, an inbound AI SDR. Many teams run an outbound AI SDR and a demo agent on the website together.
Do AI SDRs work?
No public study with a stated method compares AI SDR results with human SDRs. The sourced data is about adoption: in the Bridge Group's 2025 survey of 351 B2B companies, AI SDRs appeared as an SDR model for 1% of respondents, and Gartner places AI agents for sales at the Peak of Inflated Expectations.
