Lead Routing

Lead routing decides who follows up with a new lead. When a demo request or chat comes in, routing rules assign it to a rep or team, ideally within seconds, so the lead is not left in a shared queue.

Lead routing: the rules and tools that assign inbound leads to the right owner, quickly and consistently.

Common routing rules

  • Territory: region, country or time zone.
  • Segment: company size or industry, often from enrichment data.
  • Account ownership: a lead from an existing account goes to its owner.
  • Round-robin: leads rotate evenly across a pool of reps, often weighted by availability.
  • Qualification: unqualified leads go to nurture instead of a rep.

Routing at the moment of the request

Classic routing runs in the CRM after the form is submitted, and the rep then reaches out to schedule. Scheduling and routing tools such as Chili Piper route the lead as the form is submitted and show the right rep's calendar straight away, so the prospect books before they leave the page. Either way, routing is a large part of speed to lead: a lead that waits in the wrong queue is a slow lead.

Routing and AI agents

An AI agent on the website adds a step before routing: it can answer and qualify the visitor first, so only leads worth a rep's time reach the calendar. Floe does not assign leads between reps itself. It offers the booking page you configure and sends a recap of each session to the email, Slack, Microsoft Teams or CRM destinations you choose, where your existing routing takes over.

FAQ

What is lead routing? Assigning each new lead to the right sales rep or team using rules such as territory, company size, account ownership and round-robin.

Why does lead routing matter? Because a lead that sits unassigned is not being followed up. Routing at the moment of the request, with instant booking, removes the wait between the form and the first response.
